The Good Life is an independent, locally owned magazine published monthly in Austin, Texas, since October 1997. The owners and founders are publisher Rebecca Melançon and editor Ken Martin.
The Good Life is a magazine about living an active and engaged life filled with enthusiasm. We speak to the issues of the day, reflect the hearts and minds that make up our community, and explore the things in life that really matter.
Through compelling journalism we seek to convey a sense of community that brings readers together to celebrate our local culture. We strive to aid in the preservation and growth of that culture by doing all we can to keep Austin from becoming Anywhere USA. To that end, we encourage our readers to consider meeting day-to-day needs by doing as much of their shopping as possible with locally owned independent businesses and local farmers. This helps to maintain a thriving local economy and supports the businesses that create the nature and character of Austin.
Our goal is to publish stories written with depth, wit, style and grace. We hire the best local writers and photographers to produce something original, something fresh and engaging to attract an impassioned audience that gives the magazine its full attention. We feature the organizations and people whose achievements are making Austin and the world a better place.
We believe that a good life is comprised of family and friends, fulfilling work, intellectual dialogue, peace within and without, and an enjoyment of the bounty our community has to offer. The stories in our pages include these elements and more.
We try to practice and promote sustainable living, protect the environment and minimize the use of natural resources, and we encourage our readers to do so as well.
